Hope this isn't
Just finished installing a 240V 30A receptacle (6-30R) in my garage to be used for one of those construction type heaters. I decided to mount the device in a 4" square box along with one of the 4" cover plates designed to hold a single device. Looks fine for a garage application and provided plenty of room for the #10 wires. I found the 3x2x3 device box a bit too small. Just one problem though, the cover plate has extra mounting holes that are approx. 9mm in diameter and according to rule 26-700(10(b), ?any openings around the receptacle or cover shall be such that a rod 6.75mm in diameter will not enter.?
Am I misinterpreting this rule or am I in fact breaking the rule?
Hope this isn't a really dumb question.
Dave.

I read the rule and interpret it the same way you do. It seems to me you are in violation but I doubt most Safety codes officers would nail you on this one unless it was a shoddy home made cover or something similar, but then again you never know and it is always better to correct a known violation than to "hope" you get away with it.
By the way,the only dumb thing about a question is not asking it!
